How to Support Someone

It can be difficult to know what to do if you suspect a friend or family member may be in an abusive relationship or situation. Your support can be empowering and give them the confidence they need to make choices that are best for their situation.

The following are common questions we’re asked about how to help and links to some specific answers and information.

How do I know if the relationship has crossed the line to abuse? Learn more about the Signs of an Abusive Relationship to identify the red flags.

Are there things I should say and do, or things to avoid? Read How to Help to learn some specific do’s and don’ts for offering support.

Can I donate cell phones I no longer use to help a survivor get in touch with emergency or support services and stay connected with family and friends? Yes, you can donate phones at a company-owned Verizon Wireless Communications Store and through the mail by downloading a free shipping label from the verizonwireless.com/hopeline website.
