Music: Pave the Way Project

PAVE the Way Project is a national campaign and contest designed to empower youth to take a stand against teen dating violence – through pop music.

In 2012, seven musicians/bands from across the U.S. released original songs. The 13-20 year-olds all had the same goal: win a chance to record a new song written by Grammy award winner Salvador Santana, and his father: 10-time Grammy winner Carlos Santana.

For two weeks, more than 140,000 people cast votes for their favorite musician. The winner of the contest was Dymond Harding, with her powerful song “Selfish Love”.

Harding then co-wrote “Me, Myself, and I” with Salvador Santana and Klaus Derendorf. She recorded the song, featuring a performance by Carlos Santana on guitar, in two sessions in Los Angeles, California. “Me, Myself, and I” dropped on June 6, 2013 to the PAVE the Way Project website as a free download, along with the seven finalist songs already available on the site.

The Pave the Way Project is a partnership between Cornerstone (a Minnesota based domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and youth advocacy organization), HopeLine® from Verizon and entertainment agency MTE, Inc., who created, produced and outsourced all artists.
